OVERVIEW
The New Economy Summit is one of Japan's largest global conferences organized by the Japan Association of New Economy. Speakers at the first New Economy Summit 2013 (NES 2013) included the creator of Android, Mr. Andy Rubin, co-founder of Twitter, Mr. Jack Dorsey, and the man who connected the world through Skype, Mr. Niklas Zennstrom. They were all people known for disrupting existing paradigms and pioneering great new innovations in people's lives. The bringing together of these innovators from around Japan and the world has prompted catalysis in the world of innovation.
The second NES was held over two days in 2014. Based on the theme, "Accelerate Innovation," 13 separate sessions were held to cover diverse issues ranging from education to energy, the airline industry, and investment among other topics. CEO (now Executive Chairman of the Board and Chief Technology Officer) of Oracle Corporation, Mr. Larry Ellison, and other global executives and entrepreneurs were invited as guest speakers to share their insights on restructuring and stimulating Japan's industries, and globalizing the business environment. There was a total of 3,000 participants including people from business executives, policy makers, government officials, entrepreneurs, general public, and students, among others.
This year, NES 2015will be held from April 7 to April 8 Speakers include the winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Prof. Shinya Yamanaka (Director and Professor of the Center for iPS Cell Research ad Application, Kyoto University); Drew Houston (co-founder and CEO of Dropbox); George Roberts (Co-Chairman and Co-CEO of KKR & Co. L.P.); Nathan Blecharczyk (CTO and co-founder of Airbnb); and Mike Winn (co-founder and CEO of Drone Deploy) among many other eminent speakers. Global innovators and leaders of new economy and industry, will converge on Tokyo for the NES.
Furthermore, a "NES STARTUP COMPETITION" will be held for the first time as a pitch event to kickstart the NES 2015. Startup entrepreneurs will give passionate talks on their businesses that will shape new industries in the future. Executive members of the Japan Association of New Economy (JANE) and guest speakers from overseas will take part as judges.
